Fred enjoys his pastime of painting landscapes in watercolour. His previous technical drawing experience has proved to be invaluable when painting buildings and he finds the implications of perspective both rewarding and challenging. He has been drawing and painting since a child and recalls winning a prize in a national painting competition when at junior school. Like the many who take up painting on a more frequent basis when they are retired or semi-retired Fred rekindled his interest about fourteen years ago (circa 1990) when the precious resource of time was sufficient for him to brush the dust off his brushes.
Fred exhibits examples of work at the twice-yearly exhibitions organised by the Arnold Art Society and since becoming a member his enthusiasm for painting has found new vigour. He regularly supports the workshops, demonstrations, practice sessions, including the summer outdoor sketching excursions arranged by the Society and finds them to be most helpful and encouraging. He attributes the sitting alongside experienced fellow artists in the weekly painting practice sessions as one of the most rewarding benefits of membership and would recommend this to anyone thinking of joining an art group.
